Microsoft says 58% of global cyberattacks come from Russia

WASHINGTON, Oct 7 (PRIME) -- Russia-based hacker groups have organized 58% of the cyberattacks registered in the world since July 2020 till June, Microsoft said in a report seen by PRIME on Thursday.

Microsoft pointed to group Nobelium, which it links to Russia and accuses of the majority of intrusions, including in the systems of Western government institutions.

“Nobelium with its aggressive actions against providers of IT services and Western state institutions catapulted Russia to the first place in the list of the countries from which attacks have originated this year. This group is responsible for 92% of all notices sent to the clients about threatening activities from the territory of Russia,” the report read.

North Korea was second among the countries-sources of cyberattacks with a share of 23%, while hackers from Iran and China accounted for 11% and 8% of cases, respectively.
